Why James Comey Should have Been Fired Long Ago

James Comey, for those who don’t know, was the FBI Director from September 2013 to May 2017. The story making the rounds is that President Trump fired Director Comey to cover-up his Russian ties. It is FAR more likely that Trump just got mad at him and decided to get rid of him. Should he have done it sooner? Yes! Should he have done it now? No! Why not? It was TERRIBLE timing. However, that is not the point of this article, if you want to learn more about this topic I would recommend this video.

So why should James Comey have been fired? Quite simply, he put himself into politics when NO FBI Director should have. The FBI Director is supposed to lead the FBI in investigating, not swinging elections. Could Comey just have been clueless and didn’t think about the consequences of reopening the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails? Of course. Is that probable? No.

So in summary, James Comey probably was fired because he was abusing the position that he held by becoming a political figure. The timing is really bad. But this firing has been long overdue.

Depending on the response, I might continue to do these political analyses from time to time. Did you like this? I encourage you to say so in the comment section.

So I’m branching out into some non-economic issues but I do feel like this is important. If you feel like I should stick with economics just comment below. On the other hand, if you liked this post and want to see more I would love to hear from you below.

  1. Keep it up. Politics and economics are very much related topics. That’s why one of the classes I took my senior year of high school was called “Government and Economics”.

Both are linked, in that you can’t have government without economics, though you can have an economy without government…of a sort. It just wouldn’t be a good one, for most of the people.

On the topic of the firing of Comey, I agree. His firing ought to have occurred on day one, not months in, while he’s investigating Trump. That it looks suspicious is putting it very mildly, though I must admit that doesn’t match up with Trump’s personality.

From what I’ve seen of the man over the years, I have no problem believing that the firing had nothing to do with the investigation. He simply doesn’t operate like that, though I do find it amusing that his opponents are so quick to nail him for things they supported in Obama’s administration.
